Give your immune system a BOOST with these 5 TIPS

The Summer heat waves are FINALLY over and Autumn is among us

With the drastic weather change, lots of people are catching the cold or flu.
Make sure to boost your immune system to avoid getting sick.

1. Garlic

2. Ginger 

Ever had ginger tea and thought “Wow that was STRONG”. It’s for good reason. Ginger is a natural antiviral which helps to fight against illness and bacteria that causes a cold. It also has some great antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that boost your immune system.

3. Dark Leafy greens 

Not into citrus fruits? Dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale and rocket are great alternatives to get your Vitamin C kick to reduce the duration of a cold. Try making a pumpkin, kale and spinach salad or if you don’t like the taste add some kale and spinach to your smoothie and you’ll still get all the nutrients without even knowing it.

4. Exercise regularly

Regular exercise gives your immune system a boost but how??

a) Speeds up your immune cells to detect bacteria faster

b) Increases your body temperature to prevent bacteria growth

c) Slows down the release of stress hormones that increase the risk of you getting sick

*A minimum of 30 minutes/day or 3 days/week at the gym is a good place to start

 5. Get enough sleep every night 

Studies have shown that sleep deprivation puts you at a greater risk of getting sick because  not getting enough sleep weakens your immune system. i.e. The soldiers in your body (Immune cells) aren’t getting enough rest to fight bacteria that can get you sick.

Optimal amount of sleep for adults: 7- 9 hours
